gate bridge, traffic looks good as you head down to the toll plaza with no major problems and also looking at the commute along the area that traffic is moving well, let's go back to the desk. topping our news, our continuing coverage of the boston marathon bombings in just 90 minutes from now the fbi will update the suspects from what bombing that the white house is calling a terrorist attack. alex savage is live in our newsroom, alex, what is the latest? >> reporter: well nobody in custody with connection with that attack, a short time from now we will hold that briefing and we expect to find out if federal investigators are zeroing in on anybody connected to the bombing yesterday. significant developments overnight, this is video taken over the area this morning and it shows law enforcement agents searching an apartment house

near the waterfront in that city. you can see they are searching a duffel bag from that house and that search was prompted from a traffic stop when police pulled over somebody they described as auspicious driver. officers are trying to pull over suspicious people at the boston marathon. and that's video from the finish line as the twin bombs exploded yesterday afternoon. the blast went off in the middle of a huge crowd of spectators. three people are dead, at least 140 injured and one of those killed was an eight-year-old boy and still more than a dozen are listed in critical condition in boston hospital and their injuries are severed limbs and broken bones and

broken eardrums. they are not speculating yet on a possible motive. >> this will be a combined federal state and local effort and it will be an on going investigation and it is a potential terrorist investigation. >> they were crude devices likely left along the marathon route. >> they are now pouring over video and they are searching for clues in this case and again the fbi will be holding a news conference to update their investigation 90 minutes from now we will update that for you and for now live in the newsroom, ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> an alamo man returns to the area, he just finished the race when he heard the explosions and saw smoke. then he saw the horrifying

after that 6.2 magnitude earthquake which killed 37 people last week. we are following victimming news -- developing news in san jose where a seven-year-old girl was killed in a house fire. vague vague is live -- janine de la vega is live where investigators are trying to figure out what happened, janine? >> reporter: it is very sad, we can still smell smoke in the air. they had been watching out for hot spots and it happened behind this area and the body has already been removed from the coroner. it happened in an attached garage and firefighters say the garage was actually converted into a house and when they arrived they found the body of a seven-year-old girl inside. her mother had put her and her four-year-old sister to sleep and she left to go back to the main house for a short while

and then she saw her four-year- old come out with burned hair and that's when she realized that the garage was on fire. >> this was a tough one for us as an organization and for the family, we are here and we are trying to do anything and everything as far as support the family. >> reporter: we know that two other people were treated for smoke inhalation and we are unsure which one of the relatives it was but they were transported to a local hospital but they are expected to survive and we are told by a spokesperson that a grandmother tried to go in and see if she could get the seven-year-old girl but it was already too late. such a devastating story for this family. the arson investigators will come out to try to determine the cause of this fire.

another question we had had to do with smoke alarms with this detached garage did it have smoke alarms and we are hoping to have an update on that later on in the morning news. reporting live from san jose ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> just hours before that fire, two people were killed in another house fire in san jose. that started at 8:30 last night at a home on south daniel way. they were able to pull her out but not able to save her. you can see it was a huge fire and the firefighters say strong winds made it difficult to put it out and keep it from spreading. neighbors said they heard something that sounded like a loud explosion just as the fire started. >> i jumped up and called 911 but before the call went

through somebody started pounding on our door saying get out, the house next door is on fire. >> now the cause of that fire is still being investigated. and they are looking to loopholes that will go before a state senate committee and there are 8 separate provisions in this bill. one would ban large capacity ammunition magazines over ten rounds and the other would require anybody who wants to buy ammunition to first pass a complete background check and needing a new firearm sir kate for all -- certificate for all gun purchases. and the center will start debating the gun legislation today and first there is an amendment by democratic and republicans senators to gun shows and on line transactions. a vote on the background checks

probably will not happen until later this week. meantime, the bipartisan group of eight senators released their immigration reform and they are doing it out of respect for the boston marathon bombing. it would give the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants, a 13-year path to citizenship. they would have to pay $2,000 in crimes plus additional fees and the program would begin only after steps would be taken to secure the borders. we are following developing news involving an oil leak in san jose. this is happening on metcalf road, we have a crew headed to the scene and we will get you more information on this as soon as we can but again metcalf road in san jose.

sal will be affected the morning commute and we will be watching that and watching the entire commute and so far other than what we just mentioned, we are doing well, traffic continues to move a long pretty well on 80 along the carquinez bridge and we have not had a lot going on that we have been told by chp. this is a look at the westbound bay bridge and we are monitoring chp and letting you know what is going on and so far so good. this is a look at northbound 280 and it is a very nice looking drive, let's go to steve. well, thank you, a little system is producing some light snow and it is still hanging around the picture which will give us a breezy day. there are signs of a northshore wind and 20s up in the mountains and it is a chilly air mass in place which

attack at the boston marathon. kyla campbell is on capitol hill and what is it like there there morning, kyla? >> reporter: one of our photographers is behind the capital building and the supreme court. he said there is definitely extra police presence and they have been checking trash cans around the building and you might notice the flag is at half staff to honor the victims in boston. there will be higher security and the next event will go on as planned. secret service has been answering the phone to update us around the expanded perimeter around the white house. they got word of the boston marathon bombing yesterday and the president's concern was for boston. >> make no mistake, we will get to the bottom of this and we

will find out who did this, why they did this. any responsible individuals and any responsible groups will feel the full wait of justice. >> in about 15 minutes, secretary of homeland security janet napolitano will be speaking at a conference here in washington and in just about an hour from now they are holding a press conference live from boston. ktvu channel 2 morning news. well today is the 6th anniversary of the massacre where a gunman shoot 32 people on campus before shooting himself. virginia has declared it virginia tech rememberance day and a moment of silence will be followed by a ringing of the bell for each victim. the gay lesbian community,

they say safe zone signs are being placed at the city's nine police stations. he wants members of the community to feel safe coming in to a police station to report a crime. they came together after an assault where the member of a transgender was attacked after leaving a bar. there are reports of a mountain lion spotted and at 4:00 p.m. a woman told police she thought she saw a mountain lion. well they searched quarry ridge but they did not find it. they say if you do come across a mountain lion, do not run and instead make a lot of noise and try to make yourself appear bigger. they will go to a series of concerts and a concert permit and two weeks ago, they decided

to scale back for a temporary waterfront venue after several of the neighbors complained. tonight's meeting starts at 5:30. a school in japan is now claiming a small boat which washed up is now theirs. the 20-foot boat is believed to be part of the tsunami. the boat has the words high school written in japanese on the sides. now they say the boat was part of their marine sciences program and they want it back and they will be doing some interesting studying on that boat i think. >> sal, if your friends showing up at the toll plaza -- are your friends showing up at the toll plaza yet? you can still get a nice ride through and a lot of people get on to improve their

huge difference in some of the winds. 46 in the city and our system is right there and high pressure is really going to build in and hang around so sunny breezy mostly sunny, a few high clouds and a chilly cold morning but it will be a little warmer on the afternoon highs, 50s and of 0s -- 20s coast and bay -- 60s coast and bay, sunny to mostly sunny, warmer weather thursday and thursday looks to be the warmest day. still pretty good on the weekend but it looks like a very quiet pattern but slightly cooler. european markets are stating their trading day in contrast to most markets in asia overnight, china south korea and hong kong continue to slide falling almost a half of

a percent each. gold prices we have been watching dropping significantly and they are recovering a little bit this morning. price of gold fell to 137 $33 an ounce and it remains below $1,400 and it is the first time it has been that low. crude oil prices hit their low and they are hovering around $89 a barrel. big hit yesterday, a lot of that having to with the news we told you that early in the morning and we told you about that covering and a couple of stocks to watch, coca-cola which is part of the to you do you da -- dow jones industrial average, it will trade up 3% and i want to get the latest from the futures and i have been wching them this morning and it looks like a rebound this morning and the dow jones

. in just about an hour from now, we want to update you on the subject of that attack. jennifer you have more of what is happening there this morning? >> reporter: good morning to you. well if the sun comes up, i can tell you a couple of things. we are seeing a lot of joggers and we are hereby the boston commence and we are seeing a few out in their marathon jackets and it is not quite normal, we are hearing a lot of sirens, seeing an increased presence and there is a big area downtown that remains blocked off as the crime scene and investigators are pursuing a number of leads this morning. there is a 20-year-old saudi national at the hospital and he

was at the bomb blast yesterday and raising some concerns police are talking with him although he is not a suspect. we know a search warrant was executed in a nearby town of revere and we are seeing a number of things being brought out of that building but at this point they don't have any motive or any sort of suspect and at this point there was no intelligence chatter they were able to pick up before or after this event and a lot remains to be discovered. >> jennifer davis reporting live we will have more on the investigation throughout the morning, thank you. 5:27 is the time right now, a little girl, one of three people killed in two separate fires in san jose, what we are learning about the investigation. also, we will continue to follow the situation in boston this morning and the actions law enforcement agencies are

scene of carnage. the powerful blast just second apart made it clear to thousands at the scene that this was a deliberate act. the latest casualty toll at least 140 injured and one of those killed an 8-year-old boy. medical personnel helped tired runners where they were immediately confronted with a life or death situation. >> i think what really surprised me was number of people and just the -- really the amount of blood and the amount of injuries. >> we all tried to put pressure on the wounds, tourniquets, whatever we can do and it was chaos. >> the few has not revealed who may be responsible for the bombings but the white house is now calling this an act of terrorism. the 12-year-old is among those injured from the bombings and he was hit in the thigh

with chapnal -- shrapnel. his mother said heel undergo surgery again tomorrow. his sister and mother were also at the race but they were not injured. several major sports events around the world are tightening security. in just a couple of months another event will be coming up and they will tighten security. also the organizers of kentucky derby are reexamining security methods and even russia is tightening to your security. -- security. last night both the a's and warriors hit home games before the fans arrived, bomb-sniffing

dogs checked the seats and everything else and they doubled the amount of police officers who were there. some say the extra security made them feel safer. security is also stepping up as a response to the boston bombings and san francisco mayor ed lee said security was tightened within minutes of those explosions. normally this attract a lot of crowds prompting a review of several events including next month's beta breaker race. >> visitors are here to enjoy our city and we are concerned. >> officials say if you see anything suspicious immediately call 911 one. stay with us all morning long for corn of the boston marathon bombings and we will have team

coverage bringing you live reports from boston. a seven-year-old was killed in a house fire antigen mean, you spoke -- and janine, you spoke to the little girl's grandmother. >> she said she helped raise her granddaughter, goes to elementary school and she can't believe her granddaughter is gone. she had gone to sleep ina shed that was located behind this blue house. we want to go to a picture we just received from the grandmother of her grand daughter, this is seven-year- old mariah angel gomez and she died last night in the fire and this occurred just before 11:30 again in a detached garage of empire street. firefighters say the garage was

converted and when they arrived they found the seven-year-old girl in one of the burning beds inside and apparently her four- year-old sister was able to get out and she found her with her hair burning and her mother had left to go into the main house for a short while and when she returned, the house was on fire. again i spoke with the grandmother just moments ago and this is what she said that the great grandfather heard. >> he heard her crying, she was calling for her. mariah was crying and then by the time the fire started he didn't hear her no more. >> it was just too late and her relatives could not get to her before she died there in the fire in the bed she was sleeping in. two other people were told the

four-year-old was taken to the hospital as well as the grandfather and we hear they are at the hospital for smoke inhalation and they are expected to be okay but we don't know their exact condition. firefighters do not know the cause of the fire but again we are still trying to find out if there were smoke alarms inside that house. reporting live, janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 morning news. just hours before that fire, two people were killed in another house fire in san jose. that started at about 8:30 last night at a home on south daniel way. firefighters pulled an elderly woman out of the home and another person was found dead after the fire was put out. strong winds made it difficult to put that fire out and keep it from spreading but the cause is still being investigated. a business and strip mall is damaged after a fire started

at 10:00 last night at lovely sweets and snacks at el comino royal. nobody was inside the building at that time and no firefighters were injured fighting that fire and also the cause of that fire is still being investigated. police have detained several people after a pursuit where shots were fired at a police car. it started at 1220 them them this morning where undercover officers -- undercover officers shots fired. eight people were detained in connection with that incident. 5:38 is the time right now and sal is keeping an eye on the san mateo bridge, how is it looking, sal? it looks good and as a matter of fact we are looking good all the way to the peninsular and i want to show you a windy drive across the

bridge. it is not quite as windy and you still may feel some wind but if you are driving to the 880 freeway, traffic is moving well past the oakland coliseum. westbound 580, there is a stalled big-rig which is not blocking the lanes and if you are taking an off ramp, traffic is also going to be busy on 880 to fremont, it is still a nice drive from 238 to maury avenue. let's go to steve. you can see a couple of clouds moving offshore and it is cold out there. two pieces of that system, one came in late in the afternoon and mostly sunny, a little breezy, not as windy as yesterday, warmer but mainly 60s on the high side. we have to wait for that system to clear out and it looks like

it will stay with us the rest of the week. you can see reno and south lake tahoe, higher elevations towards south, kirkwood and coming off going from east to west, we don't see that all the time. 33 calistoga. definitely there was a breeze and the temperatures held up santa rosa, gusting to 33 miles per hour, napa 52 fairfield and we have a cool 46 in san francisco, i did see 42 in san rafael. 48 up in tahoe and that cool air is taking a plunge and once this system rotates into eastern nevada we will be on the western edge of this and the breeze will start to turn northeast and it will be a little warmer today. mainly 60s a couple of very low

. welcome back, here is a quick look at some of the top stories, we are following a major development and you are looking at a video from the suburb of revere. you can see law enforcement agents searching an apartment house of a possible suspect. now the fbi will be holding a news conference at 6:30 hour time to give us the very latest on the investigation. they are looking into the cause of a fire that killed a seven-year-old girl. it started at an a detached --

at a detached garage and two other people were treated for smoke inhalation. several pg&e transformers are leaking oil and it happened near san jose. we are told several thousands of gallons of oil are -- several thousands of gallons are leaking. we will have a live report coming up in the 6:00 hour. the government is now warning it would not give any advanced notice if they decide to attack south korea. they say they were responding to what it called insults from the puppet government in south korea. they are claiming the government of seoul was taking information from u.s. leaders. >> now a u.s. military helicopter has crashed and this is the marine helicopter that went down and it made a hard

landing with the north during a routine drill, all 21 people on board reportedly survived that crash. 15 have been released from the hospital and 16 remain in stable condition. china's military is saying that the u.s. is destabilizing the asian pacific region by sending more troops and ships to the area. the u.s. policy known as the pivot to asia frequently makes the situation more tense. as the situation winds down, they are reallocating more to asia meanwhile they have decreased spending more than 500% and china's defense budget is now the second largest in the u.s. three teenage boys accused of sexually assaulting a teenage student who later committed suicide will be in

court. the boys are accused of sexually assaulting audrie pott while she was drunk and passed out at a party last year. during a news conference, the boys wrote crude messages on her daughter's body after the attack then e-mailed and texted photos. audrie pott committed suicide eight days later and she said she had been bullied for years. >> i she said i can't do this, i have been here for two years and i can't do it anymore. >> reporter: the parents want to sue the boys and they want them to be tried as adult. the attorneys representing the boys say the information is inaccurate. later today the judge will decide whether they will stay in custody or be released to their parents. investigators say a man was allowed inside an apartment on

10th street by claiming he was a plumber and police say he molested the girl inside the apartment and when the girl started screaming a family member ran in and the man ran away. he is 160 pounds with light brown hair and a white beard. veterinarian said the rescued seal pup thought to be a girl is actually a boy. he was rescued one week ago but he will keep his new name, doll loy got his name in palo alto and the 14-pound pup is half the size of what the pup should be. they expect to release dolly in a few months. time now 5:48 we have a brand-new crash in san mateo where is it? >> this one is reportedly involving debris all over the world, southbound 101 at highway 92 and it looks like it

could be a pretty serious crash according to chp and there is debris in all the lanes, heavy metal debris, rebar and other kind of metal and it was a prius and another vehicle involved in this crash and they are looking for heavy tow truck for a big-rig and again, highway 101, you might want to consider using 280 as an alternative and people are slowing to take a look and medics are on the way. we talked about getting over to the peninsular and so far it looks okay heading out there. and if you want to look at the bay bridge toll plaza, it is light. let's go to steve. well, if you are watching us up in reno, we are dealing with a little bit of light snow and it is in the old pipeline. for us, a cooler pattern has

settled in and after last night and this morning we are seeing a chilly morning with a lot of 30s and 40s and it has been a chilly april, today will be breezy but not as bad. they have a southeast wind and a puff of it to 5 miles per hour and yet fairfield much stronger gusts out of the north and a lot of 30s and 40s even the city at 46 degrees. everything is carving itself out here and one more system along the sierra nevada and sunny and breezy, it is a cold morning for april, i mean my goodness and a little bit warmer, it will be sunny to mostly fair and there will be high clouds out towards the east but 50s, 60s and 70s and the winds turn more northerly today and more northeast and it will take us to a warmer pattern and still pretty good on friday and we will carry that over into the weekend.
